How to clean your grinder properly?
Why is it important to clean your grinder properly?

Like all types of tools, it is important to clean your grinder. The grinder becomes dirty with use, forming what is known as kief.
Kief (or keef or pollen) is the powder formed at the bottom of your grinder. It comes from the resin glands that cover the hemp/cannabis plant, the trichomes. They contain terpenes and cannabinoids that make cannabis taste unique and full of flavour.
That's why if you don't clean your grinder, it becomes difficult to use: from the rotation, to the opening of the accessory to the quality of the expected result. But don't worry, we have some tips to help you clean your grinder.
The different steps to clean your grinder
There are several different ways to clean your grinder. Depending on the material, the methods can vary. If you have a Cakespace grinder, you will find a boss in the top part of the tool that allows you to scrape off any residue. All you need to do is follow one of the following steps.
First method
Toothbrush and special grinder cleaner
As you may have guessed, brushing the pins of your grinder is very important. Remove all the parts of your grinder and place them on a clean, flat surface. Take a toothbrush and start to gently scrub the teeth of your grinder dry.
Get rid of the large pieces but be sure to save the kief for smoking later, unless it no longer looks edible (mouldy, very old, smelly).
After scraping the CBD (cannabidiol) off the grinder, spray the grinder cleaner on all parts of your utensil. Let it dry for a good minute before taking your toothbrush and scrubbing the entire grinder. Let it dry and your grinder is as good as new!
Second method
Water, soap and your toothbrush (not really yours)
If you don't have a special grinder cleaner, you can always replace it with soap, but for this step you must first soak your grinder in hot water. Perfect for acrylic grinders. As in the previous step, after soaking for a few minutes, you rub the grinder parts and you are ready to go again. It is not advisable to scrub your accessory with sharp tools, so don't hesitate to take your time. .
Third method
90° alcohol
It is not prescribed for all types of grinders (acrylic grinders come to mind) but if you have a Cakespace grinder, you can use this technique. With the help of medical alcohol, and always disassembled, dip your grinder, without putting the sieve, in the 90° alcohol for a few minutes. The residues will be dissolved by the product, and all that remains is to remove the remaining particles with a toothbrush. Leave your tool to dry in the open air so that the alcohol vapours can evaporate and it will be as good as new.
Fourth method
In the freezer
A simple and effective way to clean your grinder is to put it in the freezer. It's that easy and doesn't require any additional products. Just put your grinder in the freezer for an hour. The flower residue will have solidified in the cold, so all you have to do is tap the grinder parts on a hard surface to remove them. Remove the rest with a toothbrush or toothpick.
Fifth method
Fuull-fat milk
Although not recommended for wooden and plastic grinders, this method is an effective way to clean your grinder. Hemp is fat-soluble. Simply put it in whole milk and bring the liquid to a boil, thanks to the fat of the milk, the residues will come off your tool. Once done, rinse it with clear water and clean it with your brush or a cotton swab for the most difficult places.
Note that for all these methods, it is important to brush the grinder parts thoroughly before starting the complete cleaning. It is best to let it air dry and to repeat the cleaning of the tool once a month, for more efficiency.
