CBD for sunburn: can it be a solution?

Holidays, synonymous with sunburn

The holidays are upon us, and holidays mean sun and sunburn. We've all felt the heat on our shoulders, but unfortunately we're not well protected. The result is red, inflamed skin that can lead to nausea and blisters in the worst cases. But before we get to the heart of the matter of CBD for sunburn, we'll give you a quick reminder about sunburn and how it affects your body.

How the sun's rays affect the skin

Sunburn is caused by strong exposure to the sun's ultraviolet rays (UV). It is important to remember that burns caused by a strong heat source and sunburn are not the same thing.

By being exposed to the sun for too long, UVA and UVB rays damage the skin. However, they do not have the same effects. While one (UVA) has a much longer wavelength and deeper penetration into the skin, the other (UVB) has a shorter wavelength that contributes to skin ageing and skin cancer risks.

Of course, your body has the ability to restore damaged cells, however, with too much sun exposure, your body may not be able to repair the damage, as the skin cells are dead.

If the damage is not felt directly, it may result in symptoms of varying severity.

If the symptoms persist, it is time to consult a doctor. While for most of us the symptoms are mild, for others it may be a real discomfort.

CBD for sunburn: how does it work?

Although scientific research continues on CBD and there are no real studies on CBD for sunburn, we can still look at the results of CBD for sunburn symptoms.

Your body has what is called an endocannabinoid system. We have already told you about it (you can find the explanation in several of our articles). It is this system, thanks to the different receptors it possesses, that will be able to influence your moods, your pain and other discomforts in your body. CBD, which is a cannabinoid, can play a very important role on your endocannabinoid system by stimulating the CB1 and CB2 receptors.

The most extensive studies for CBD are its results against inflammation. It has been proven that CBD can significantly soothe inflammation in the body, regardless of the type of inflammation: from acne to burns. CBD can, in the first instance, help you reduce inflammation caused by sunburn.

If the shortest symptoms are inflammation and discomfort felt on the skin, then dry, peeling skin and itching follow. Although they are not as severe, they are still uncomfortable and prevent you from enjoying your holiday. Here too, CBD can help relieve this discomfort. A study on the therapeutic potential of CBD on the skin shows us that CBD has many benefits for the skin such as pain management and a positive effect on itching and wound healing. Further studies are needed, but it is already clear that CBD can have a beneficial effect on the symptoms of sunburn.

Finally, although it is unlikely, vomiting and nausea may be one of the symptoms caused by sunburn. In the first instance, we strongly recommend that you consult a doctor. After diagnosis, you can turn to CBD to relieve stomach pains.

The various symptoms of sunburn can have an impact on your mood. So, in addition to having a positive effect on your external pain, cannabidiol can soothe your mood swings and other internal discomforts. In vape, oil, hash, infusion, whatever the type of CBD product, we recommend you take some with you, if you're more of a person who can't stand discomfort.

How to protect your skin?

So what should you do to protect your skin? The first step is obviously to use products to protect your skin. Don't hesitate to use a sunscreen with a high protection factor (preferably SPF 50). Moreover, and this is the most important advice we recommend: reapply the sunscreen every two hours!

The various studies mentioned above show the wide use of CBD against sunburn and its symptoms. It is then possible that you can turn to this type of natural solution and without negative effects. Whether internally or externally, CBD has a solution for every problem.

To combat sunburn, you can use a CBD-based sun cream to help prevent inflammation. If you don't have one, then you can make your own cannabidiol-based sunscreen. We show you the steps to create your own cream here.

In addition to sunscreen, you can also use CBD, as mentioned above, to soothe internal pain and discomfort such as sleep disturbance. We recommend our Relax range, or if you want to keep with the theme, take our sunny Beach range.

In the meantime, if you are already on holiday, we wish you a good holiday and if you are not yet on holiday or if it has already passed, don't hesitate to relax with our CBD products. And join us on our social networks. And don't forget,
