CBD against skin problems
CBD: a cosmetic agent
We have already talked to you about CBD in cosmetics, in one of our articles, and its remarkable effects on the skin against everyday problems.
But it's true that we didn't tell you about it in depth. At Cakespace, we want to do the right thing and give you more details about the remarkable properties of CBD against skin problems.
Understanding your skin's needs
Divided into three layers, the skin is the largest organ of the human body, accounting for 16% of its total weight. It forms a protective barrier against external attacks, while providing other vital functions to humans. As a result, it has 6 main functions to ensure the proper functioning of your entire body: protective, regulatory, secretory, sensory, transmission and psychological (e.g. blushing). This is why it is important, in turn, to take care of it.
But how do you take care of it when your body reacts badly to external influences?
It is possible that your skin is sensitive to external influences. This is when your skin will react and create a type of inflammation depending on the aggression suffered. There are two distinct types: chronic and acute inflammation.
Acute inflammation can take the form of redness, pain, loss of function (e.g. difficulty breathing) or swelling. These symptoms are not necessarily present and may only last a few days.
Chronic inflammation, on the other hand, can last for a longer period of time: months or even years. It would be linked to more important diseases such as diabetes, arthritis, psoriasis or allergies.

The action of CBD against skin problems
Cannabidiol is one of the most complete and safe cannabis molecules, as it does not produce any psychotropic effects. From its anti-inflammatory, soothing and regenerating actions, CBD has made its way into the cosmetic world. What's more, it goes perfectly with your body. We'll explain...
Your body has an endocannabinoid system. These endocannabinoids are there to regulate your body's actions. They are receptors present throughout the body that react to endogenous molecules created within the body.
CBD will interact with the body's endocannabinoids, acting on cannabinoid receptors without binding to them directly, unlike THC.
Two receptors have been mainly isolated: the CB1 receptor which acts on the nervous system and the CB2 receptor which acts on the cells of the immune system.
This is how CBD will come into action and act against skin problems.
CBD for skin problems: 3 most common types
This is surely the most widespread and effective use of CBD for skin problems. Amongst the most recurrent skin problems, three main ones stand out: eczema, psoriasis and acne.
For those concerned with skin problems who would like a more natural alternative to soothe the itch, cannabidiol could become a solution.
Hundreds of studies have proven that CBD could solve skin problems. As mentioned above, it has anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, soothing properties and much more.
Psoriasis is a genetic, chronic and autoimmune disease. Accelerating the development and division of skin cells, it causes redness and itching in the affected person. Scaly patches appear on the elbows, knees, legs, lower back and even on the scalp.
People with psoriasis often suffer from anxiety and depression.
CBD, with its anti-itching effect, will act on the CB1 and CB2 receptors, in order to alleviate these inconveniences. At the same time, it regulates the serotonin level, which alleviates anxiety and depression.
Like psoriasis, atopic eczema (or atopic dermatitis) is a skin condition that causes redness and itching. It is most often found in children, but can persist in adolescents and adults. It results in patches on the face, scalp and elbows. CBD will then have the same expected effects. Like psoriasis, it will be effective in terms of anti-itching and anti-inflammation.
Acne is the most common skin problem in the world. While sebum helps to protect the skin, too much sebum will cause the skin's protective barrier to be disrupted, leading to blockage of the sebocyte ducts.
Acne manifests itself in the form of pimples, most of which are inflamed. Anyone can be affected, regardless of gender or age. To treat acne, dermatologists recommend local treatment and regular cleansing of the skin. Depending on the severity of the problem, a combination of different treatments may be used, which may cause side effects.
Unlike these products, CBD is a natural active agent with very minimal side effects (dry mouth, drowsiness). In addition, cannabidiol reduces sebum secretion, while moisturising, protects against bacteria thanks to its anti-bacterial action and, again, is anti-inflammatory.
The skin can also deal with much more minor but potentially disturbing problems such as pimples, blackheads and clogged pores. All of which can affect anyone, at any age. But we explain this in our article. We also show you how to make your own cosmetics with our CBD oils.
CBD is becoming a very promising element for researchers. It significantly reduces inflammation and has a lot of benefits! More and more studies are proving its effectiveness and prowess. More and more dermatologists are recommending the use of CBD, CBG (cannabigerol) and CBN (cannabinol) therapies.
