Notre lexique du CBD : la plante de cannabis et ses composants

Cannabis

We might as well start this CBD glosssary with the plant without which there would be none of this: Cannabis.

This term can refer to two different things. First, it is the common name given to the plant variety Cannabis sativa L., which includes several subspecies, including hemp, which is used to extract CBD. But some people also use the term cannabis to refer to other types of subspecies of Cannabis sativa, which contain higher levels of THC and are therefore not allowed on the French market.

Hemp

Hemp is a subspecies of the Cannabis plant. It is both cultivated for its fibers but also for its therapeutic benefits. Rich in CBD and low in THC, it is legal on the French market.

Cannabinoid

Cannabinoids are molecules produced by the cannabis plant. They interact with our endocannabinoid system to produce different effects on the body.

There are more than 100 cannabinoids, all of which act in different ways. The best known are THC, CBD, CBG, CBN, and HHC.

To learn more about them, don't hesitate to read our article on cannabinoids.

Terpene

Terpenes are molecules produced by many plants, including Cannabis: there are more than a hundred different ones. The best known are limonene, myrcene, camphene, linalool, pinene and terpinolene.

These molecules are in particular responsible for the smells and the flavours that are characteristic of the cannabis plant and contribute to the effects of the cannabinoids thanks to the entourage effect.

THC

Tetrahydrocannabinol or THC is the best known cannabinoid in the cannabis plant. Because of its psychoactive effects, CBD products are only authorized in France with a level lower than 0.3% of THC, as it is the case with all Cakespace products

Nevertheless, THC also has positive effects, in particular on pain and the cell regeneration.

CBD

CBD, or Cannabidiol, is a cannabinoid present in large quantities in the hemp plant. Unlike THC, it produces no psychotropic effects, no dependence, and would even have antipsychotic virtues.

It produces many effects: in addition to its action on anxiety and pain, it has regenerative properties, stimulates intellectual and creative faculties, and even libido.

CBG

Also called Cannabigerol, CBG is a cannabinoid more powerful than CBD. It is particularly known for its boosting properties, which you can enjoy thanks to our Feel and Focus ranges.

CBN

CBN, or Cannabinol, is a cannabinoid that has similar effects to THC, without psychoactive effects. It is known for its benefits on sleep and appetite, which you can discover with the Fresh and Relax ranges.

HHC

Short for Hexahydrocannabinol, HHC is a cannabinoid that produces effects similar to THC. If this molecule has piqued your interest, you can go for our brand new HHC Hash range!

Myrcene

Myrcene is one of the best known terpenes in cannabis. Recognizable by its earthy and musky taste, it has anti-inflammatory virtues. You can notably find it in Cannatonic or in our Beach range.

Limonene

Limonene is a terpene with citrus aromas that has effects on mood and anxiety. It is present in all our Sensations ranges as well as in Super Lemon Haze.

Pinene

A terpene with a woody scent, pinene produces soothing effects and improves breathing. You can find it in our Focus range.

Linalool

Linalool is a terpene with a floral scent that acts on sleep and mood. It is present in our Cosmic Haze as well as in the Feel range.

Camphene

Camphene is a terpene with earthy notes that acts on pain. You can enjoy its benefits with our Fresh line.

Terpinolene

Recognizable by its pine scent, terpinolene is a terpene that soothes anxiety and depression. It is used for example in Joker Kush, but also in the products of the Relax range.

Our CBD glossary: the effects of Hemp

Endocannabinoid system

The endocannabinoid system (ECS) is made up of neurotransmitters and receptors that maintain harmony within the body by regulating processes such as heart rate, metabolism, hormone production and even fertility!

The cannabinoids produced by Cannabis interact with the different receptors of the endocannabinoid system to produce their effects.

To learn more, feel free to consult our article on cannabinoids.

Entourage Effect

The Cannabis plant produces hundreds of different cannabinoids and terpenes, each with different effects. And since each variety of cannabis would be a unique combination of these components, and they behave differently depending on the components they are associated with, the entourage effect is the idea that the different components of cannabis work together to create unique effects.

For more information, you can read our article on terpenes

Broad spectrum

A broad spectrum CBD product contains other cannabinoids and terpenes naturally present in the cannabis plant. These will enhance the effectiveness of CBD through the entourage effect. It is to make the most of this entourage effect that we propose this type of product.

Full spectrum

A full spectrum CBD product contains all the cannabinoids and terpenes naturally present in the Cannabis plant. These will enhance the effectiveness of CBD through the entourage effect. These products are however not authorized in France, because they contain higher levels of THC.

Psychoactive

A substance is said to be psychoactive or psychotropic when it affects the psyche and mental activity. This is notably the case of THC, but not of CBD.

CBD products

CBD Flower

The CBD flower is the flower produced by the cannabis or hemp plant. It is there that we find the essential of terpenes and cannabinoids. One can also speak about the head.

Hash

Also called hashish, hash is a paste made from hemp or cannabis resin. It can be vaporized or consumed with food.

If you want to know more, we have prepared an article about hash.

A sublingual product is applied to the tongue. This is particularly the case with our CBD oils.

Grinder

A grinder is an accessory used to grind CBD flowers so that they can be consumed.

Trim

Trim is made from the cuttings of CBD flowers and contains pieces of leaves and pistils. As it is a rather fine mixture, it can be directly consumed.

The manufacture of a CBD product

Manicure

The manicure consists of cutting the CBD flower to separate it from the rest of the plant, and removing all the unnecessary elements such as stems and leaves.

For more details on how our products are made, visit our about page.

Curing

The curing corresponds to the phase of refining of the flowers, which makes it possible to eliminate the liquid residues. The humidity is indeed one of the main dangers for a CBD flower.

To know more, you can consult our advice on how to check the quality of a CBD flower.

Decarboxylation

The decarboxylation consists in heating the flower of CBD to activate its effects. It is the essential stage before cooking a flower. It can be carried out very simply using an oven

For more details, we invite you to visit our article on CBD cooking.

Vape

To vape a CBD Flower is heating it in order to extract its active ingredients and to give them back in the form of vapor, which can be inhaled. It is a healthier alternative to smoking CBD.

To learn more, visit our guide to vaping.

Indoor

An Indoor Flower was cultivated inside, sheltered from the pests and the bad weather. This method produces the highest quality and highest levels of CBD.

Glasshouse

A Glasshouse flower has been grown in a greenhouse. It benefits from the sunlight while being protected from the outside. This method produces a very good quality for a lower price than Indoor.
