Is CBD detectable in saliva tests?
Can CBD be positive in a drug test?
CBD has found its place on the market. Between recreational, therapeutic or medical use, CBD appeals to consumers. It has a solution for every problem encountered, whether in terms of cosmetics, well-being after sport, for the brain, for the elderly and many other problems. CBD has proven over the years to be man's best companion. But then, you must have heard about the small presence of THC in CBD. We told you about the risks while driving, but is CBD detectable in the saliva test? We tell you everything in our article.
What is CBD?
CBD, short for cannabidiol, is one of the many molecules present in the hemp plant, also known as cannabis. This molecule, which fascinates and is the subject of much debate, has nevertheless proven, thanks to various studies, that it has an enormous number of benefits for the human body.
Indeed, CBD can calm anxiety and symptoms of depression, improve the quality of sleep and its anti-inflammatory side is recognised in cosmetics.
It should be noted that the CBD molecule contains very few side effects. It is possible to experience slight headaches, drowsiness and sometimes nausea, but these effects are not common.
CBD should not be confused with tetrahydrocannabinol, better known as THC. Unlike CBD, THC causes psychotropic effects: it is the source of the "high" felt, which is illegal in France.
As a reminder - if you haven't been following the news, it's over here - the European Council has declared the ban on CBD in France illegal. It is therefore legal to consume CBD on French territory. Only, and only if, your products contain less than 0.3% THC. As a result, we still wonder if CBD is detectable in a saliva test. Don't move...
What is a saliva test?
You've probably already heard about saliva testing, either from people around you or on TV. The saliva test is used by law enforcement agencies to detect certain drugs.
The test is simple and effective. All you have to do is take a sample of saliva and the result is immediate. If the colour of the test changes then the police will know that the person has taken drugs. It will then be necessary to specify which drug has been used. The test can detect the following drugs:
Cannabis (THC) detectable 6 to 10 hours for occasional use and 24 hours to 8 days for regular use
Amphetamines detectable for up to 40 to 60 hours
Cocaine and crack detectable 24 to 48 hours
Opiates detectable 36 to 48 hours
It is worth remembering that it is forbidden to refuse a saliva test at the risk of receiving a €4500 fine, two years imprisonment and 6 points suspension on the driving licence for refusal to comply. In addition, law enforcement agencies can use the saliva test even when the vehicle is not in motion.
In order to detect risky behaviour, the police can use a test on a stationary vehicle, even if the engine is switched off. All road users are subject to the saliva test. Yes, even cyclists, who can often ignore it.
Is CBD detectable in saliva test?
The answer is no! CBD contains a very low level of THC. Law enforcement agencies are mainly looking for traces of THC responsible for the "high" effect on the consumer. We remind you that the dangers of THC are multiple:
Because of its low THC content, CBD, which is totally different from its cousin, does not cause psychotropic effects. In a saliva test, CBD is less likely to be detected than if you were using cannabis with a high THC content.
However, studies are lacking. It is possible that a test will be positive if you use a lot of CBD or if your product has a THC content of more than 0.3%.
If you have consumed CBD and have tested positive, you can take a urine test or a blood test to determine the level of THC in your blood.
