Notre lexique du CBD : la plante de cannabis et ses composants
We might as well start this CBD glosssary with the plant without which there would be none of this: Cannabis.
This term can refer to two different things. First, it is the common name given to the plant variety Cannabis sativa L., which includes several subspecies, including hemp, which is used to extract CBD. But some people also use the term cannabis to refer to other types of subspecies of Cannabis sativa, which contain higher levels of THC and are therefore not allowed on the French market.
Hemp is a subspecies of the Cannabis plant. It is both cultivated for its fibers but also for its therapeutic benefits. Rich in CBD and low in THC, it is legal on the French market.
Cannabinoids are molecules produced by the cannabis plant. They interact with our endocannabinoid system to produce different effects on the body.
There are more than 100 cannabinoids, all of which act in different ways. The best known are THC, CBD, CBG, CBN, and HHC.
To learn more about them, don't hesitate to read our article on cannabinoids.
Terpenes are molecules produced by many plants, including Cannabis: there are more than a hundred different ones. The best known are limonene, myrcene, camphene, linalool, pinene and terpinolene.
These molecules are in particular responsible for the smells and the flavours that are characteristic of the cannabis plant and contribute to the effects of the cannabinoids thanks to the entourage effect.
Tetrahydrocannabinol or THC is the best known cannabinoid in the cannabis plant. Because of its psychoactive effects, CBD products are only authorized in France with a level lower than 0.3% of THC, as it is the case with all Cakespace products.
Nevertheless, THC also has positive effects, in particular on pain and the cell regeneration.
CBD, or Cannabidiol, is a cannabinoid present in large quantities in the hemp plant. Unlike THC, it produces no psychotropic effects, no dependence, and would even have antipsychotic virtues.
CBN, or Cannabinol, is a cannabinoid that has similar effects to THC, without psychoactive effects. It is known for its benefits on sleep and appetite, which you can discover with the Fresh and Relax ranges.
Short for Hexahydrocannabinol, HHC is a cannabinoid that produces effects similar to THC. If this molecule has piqued your interest, you can go for our brand new HHC Hash range!
A terpene with a woody scent, pinene produces soothing effects and improves breathing. You can find it in our Focus range.
Camphene is a terpene with earthy notes that acts on pain. You can enjoy its benefits with our Fresh line.
Our CBD glossary: the effects of Hemp
The endocannabinoid system (ECS) is made up of neurotransmitters and receptors that maintain harmony within the body by regulating processes such as heart rate, metabolism, hormone production and even fertility!
The cannabinoids produced by Cannabis interact with the different receptors of the endocannabinoid system to produce their effects.

The Cannabis plant produces hundreds of different cannabinoids and terpenes, each with different effects. And since each variety of cannabis would be a unique combination of these components, and they behave differently depending on the components they are associated with, the entourage effect is the idea that the different components of cannabis work together to create unique effects.
For more information, you can read our article on terpenes
A broad spectrum CBD product contains other cannabinoids and terpenes naturally present in the cannabis plant. These will enhance the effectiveness of CBD through the entourage effect. It is to make the most of this entourage effect that we propose this type of product.
A full spectrum CBD product contains all the cannabinoids and terpenes naturally present in the Cannabis plant. These will enhance the effectiveness of CBD through the entourage effect. These products are however not authorized in France, because they contain higher levels of THC.
A substance is said to be psychoactive or psychotropic when it affects the psyche and mental activity. This is notably the case of THC, but not of CBD.
The CBD flower is the flower produced by the cannabis or hemp plant. It is there that we find the essential of terpenes and cannabinoids. One can also speak about the head.
Also called hashish, hash is a paste made from hemp or cannabis resin. It can be vaporized or consumed with food.
If you want to know more, we have prepared an article about hash.

A grinder is an accessory used to grind CBD flowers so that they can be consumed.
