Ways to consume CBD
You've finally decided to take the plunge, but there's still one question on your mind: how to take CBD? Inhalation, vaporization, ingestion ... Cannabidiol has as many consumption methods as varieties. So make yourself comfortable, we’re taking stock together.
How to vape CBD
It may break your image of Cannabis, but it is not recommended to smoke the Cannabis flower directly - of course, you are free to consume your order as you wish once you get home! On the contrary, CBD can be a great way to stop smoking tobacco or cannabis with THC as it is not addictive.
To inhale CBD safely, you can turn to two types of products: flowers, or vapes and e-liquids.
CBD flowers can be inhaled through a vaporizer, which will heat the product without combustion, and release non-irritating, health-safe scents that retain the terpenes and active ingredients of CBD for a benefit-rich experience.
But no need to invest in a machine for vaping, since there are also e-liquids and CBD vapes.
With a bioavailability that can exceed 50%, inhalation is the ideal mode of CBD consumption for maximum effects. When vaping, CBD does not pass through the digestive system but comes into contact with the inner surface of the lungs, which is directly connected to the blood vessels.
By penetrating this directly into the blood vessels, CBD acts within minutes.
This CBD consumption method is therefore very useful to automatically relieve problems like acute pain or nausea.
On the other hand, these are the effects that last the least, with an average of two to three hours.
But getting effects in just a few puffs also makes it easier to find the dose that suits you best!
Since the dosage also depends on your smoking habits, don't hesitate to look at the product concentration. If you are used to vaping for long periods of time, you may find it interesting to use less concentrated products.
For CBD flowers, the dose is calculated in milligrams. Beginners are generally advised to start with a small dose, between 10 and 20 mg, and to increase the doses in small increments. To find the exact amount of CBD contained in your product, you can refer to the concentration of the product, which is always indicated on the packaging. Thus, a flower of 1g with 6% of CBD will contain 60 mg of CBD.
If you choose to inhale a flower with a vaporizer, you have to start by crushing it. You can do this by hand or with a grater, but the best solution is the grinder. You can then place it in the tank of the vaporizer, before preheating it between 160 and 220°C. If your flower is too dry, don't hesitate to lower the temperature, and to raise it if it is too wet.
How to use CBD orally
One of the greatest benefits of Cannabidiol is that it can be added to almost any type of food. Gummies, CBD drinks, chewing gums ... many CBD foods are appearing on the market, but you can also improvise yourself as a cook and add flowers or oils directly to your favorite food and drinks, which leaves endless possibilities!
Before it reaches the blood vessels and thus produces effects, the molecule must first pass through the entire digestive system. As a result, its bioavailability is only 4 to 20%.
CBD thus takes more time to act. On average, it takes a good hour to feel the first effects on an empty stomach, and up to three hours after eating.
On the bright side, the effects last longer, sometimes up to six hours! This is a major advantage that makes it a particularly effective method for relieving chronic ailments.
What we explained about vaping also applies here, except that given the lower availability of CBD consumed in oral form, don't hesitate to try a slightly higher dosage if you feel that the effects are not strong enough.
In the kitchen, there are two ways you can add CBD flowers.
The first solution is to infuse it in fat (plant oil, whole milk, butter, etc.) for about ten minutes before adding it to the preparation. Indeed, the molecule is not soluble in water - attention to cannabis infusion drinkers! Fat is thus necessary to extract the active principles of CBD. And the higher the fat rate is, the more the extraction is effective.
It is also possible to incorporate the crushed flower directly - with a grinder, for example - into recipes, in the same way as a condiment. In this case, it will be necessary to use fat in the recipe and to heat the preparation in order to extract the active principles.
For CBD oils, it's even easier: just pour a few drops into your dish or drink. No need to worry about the fat: the oil is already one!
How to take CBD under the tongue
Like flowers, CBD oils can be added to various dishes and drinks, but can also be consumed directly by placing a few drops under the tongue.
There are three types of CBD oil:
- Isolate CBD oil contains only the Cannabidiol molecule. You will not find other active ingredients, which excludes terpenes.
- Broad spectrum oils contain other cannabinoids and terpenes that are naturally present in the Cannabis plant, enhancing the effectiveness of CBD through the entourage effect. At Cakespace, we have chosen to offer this type of CBD oil to get you the most effects legally!
- There are also "full spectrum" oils, even more effective because they contain all the components originally present in the plant, including THC. Nevertheless, this type of oil is forbidden on the French market.
Applied under the tongue, the molecule passes directly through the blood vessels of the mouth before being distributed throughout the body. This is why this consumption method CBD has a much higher bioavailability, which varies between 10 and 40%.
By penetrating directly into the blood vessels, the oil takes effect after only a few minutes and peaks after an hour and a half.
Unlike spraying, the effects of sublingual oil last six to eight hours, making it an effective and long-lasting method of administration.
CBD oil dosing is very easy, because most bottles are equipped with a dropper allowing you to measure with precision. For a first use, it is generally advised to start with 2.5 to 5 mg of CBD.
Before use we advise you to shake your bottle well and to keep it in a cool and dry place, away from light.
To take CBD sublingually, nothing could be simpler: just pour a few drops under the tongue, then leave it there for a few moments to give the mucous membranes time to absorb it. After that, you can rinse your mouth with water, but we advise you not to eat immediately before or after using the oil.
For faster effects, you can also pour your oil on a sugar cube that you let melt under your tongue. The sugar penetrates more easily in the blood and makes the action of Cannabidiol all the more effective.
How to use CBD on the skin
It is a consumption method we do not always think of, and yet what could be more natural, when we know the many actions of this molecule: anti-inflammatory, moisturizing, anti-bacterial, regenerative, etc.
There are a variety of CBD cosmetic products, which are classified into two categories: topical products, which act directly on the area of application, and transdermal products, which penetrate the skin to enter the bloodstream.
But it is also possible to use CBD oil as a cosmetic. Already present in many products, it can be applied locally on the skin and hair and penetrates slowly through the epidermis.
The bioavailability of CBD cosmetics is quite high - about 45%. While transdermal products enter the bloodstream directly, topical products are not outdone, as our endocannabinoid system also has receptors present in the skin cells.
To learn more about the endocannabinoid system, be sure to check out our article on the 4 ways CBD can improve your daily life.
By directly penetrating the skin receptors and the blood vessels, CBD acts in 15 to 30 minutes. The effects of CBD, on the other hand, last between three and six hours.
Unless there is a recommendation on the packaging, the dosage is not really different from regular cosmetics. Don't hesitate to start with lighter doses and apply more and more generous layers if you see that the effects are not pronounced enough.
Choosing how to take CBD is less trivial than it seems. The way Cannabidiol is ingested will influence the way it will produce its effects, their intensity and duration. Especially since, as explained in our article on How to find the perfect CBD dose, everyone is unique and will therefore have a different relationship to the molecule.
That's why it's important to take your time to find the method that best suits your needs and desires. We'll see you soon for a new article full of advice and information about our favorite molecule!
